Calculate tip amount

Result will appear here.

What this calculator tells you

The calculator returns the tip amount itself. Local tipping customs differ, so choose a percentage that fits the service, location and your own decision rather than treating the example percentage as a rule.

Formula

Tip = Bill amount × (Tip percentage ÷ 100)

Worked example

For a bill of 60 and an 18% tip, the tip is 10.80. The bill plus that tip would be 70.80.

Useful for

  • Estimating a tip before paying
  • Comparing several tip percentages quickly
  • Finding the tip before splitting a bill among a group

Common mistakes

  • Applying the tip to the wrong base amount when local custom excludes or includes certain charges.
  • Forgetting that the displayed result is the tip, not the final bill total.
  • Treating the example percentage as a universal expectation.

How to get a more useful estimate

Use inputs that match the decision you are actually making. If a price, rate, efficiency or usage figure can vary, run the calculator more than once with a low, expected and high case. Keep units consistent, avoid rounding intermediate values too early, and separate costs that this calculator does not include.
